Ivan is the elder lemon among our Ireland experts. He holidays in Ireland every year and most weekends can be found exploring some new corner of this rich and varied island. He believes there is treasure without end in every part of Ireland if you are willing to get off the main roads and explore with an open mind. Ivan is an avid walker and believes there is no greater way to appreciate the beauty of Ireland than to walk through the landscape and wherever possible climb its hills and mountains. He delights in Ireland’s small family run hotels and restaurants, its village pubs, spontaneous music sessions and of course the local people who make it all so special and uniquely Irish.
Ivan's Favorite Part of Ireland - Westport Town:
'Westport is possibly my favorite town in Ireland. It is very pretty, is packed with great pubs and restaurants and the locals are unbelievably open and friendly. Just south of the town is mighty Croagh Patrick and the scenic drive from Westport through Louisburg to Leenane is one of the most beautiful but little known in the whole of Ireland.'Ivan's Top Tip for Visitors to Ireland:
'Don’t try to do or see too much. Instead go at an easy pace with plenty of stops, the journey from place to place is part of the experience. Top tip: if you are passing through a quiet village and spot an inviting looking pub, stop and pop in for a coffee or a glass of Guinness. You will be amazed at the welcome you receive and the stories you hear.'
