Dooley's Hotel, located in the heart of Waterford City , adjacent to the main Rosslare-Killarney road, gives the visitor the opportunity to explore the tourist attractions of the old city on foot. The Hotel is owned and managed by June Darrer and her daughters, Tina and Margaret. The History of Dooley's Hotel describes unique story of how this Waterford hotel has passed from mother to daughter for three generations. This strong sense of history and tradition is evident from the moment you enter the recently remodelled foyer. The unique history of Dooleys Hotel, on the quayside in Waterford City, was purchased by Rita Nolan in 1947 when it had a mere 8 bedrooms. Over the following years the reputation of Dooley's Hotel grew, and by the mid 1960's it had grown organically to 34 bedrooms. June Darrer joined her mother in running the Hotel at this time, having completed her training at the College of Catering in Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin. In 1994, Tina Darrer joined her mother at the helm, and in doing so became the third generation of the family to be involved in the running of Dooley's. Tina has now been joined by her sister Margaret, thus completing the unique family management team soon to be followed by Margaret's daughter Maya in "2028". To mark the 50th anniversary of the families involvement in Dooley's, a major expansion and refurbishment programme was undertaken in 1997. The total number of bedrooms is now 113, complete with purpose built conference centre. The modern, high quality, face of Dooley's Hotel today is backed up by the experience of three generations of hands on managers, and this history and commitment to excellence is evident from the moment you pass through the front doors. |
