For centuries, Dromoland Castle was the original seat of the O’Briens. Thomond House, the current seat of The O'Brien, chief of the O'Brien clan, is a comparatively recent residence. Here Lord and Lady Inchiquin have created a warm and welcoming yet stately home.
The strong fluid lines of its Georgian architecture blend perfectly with its country setting and spectacular vantage point overlooking Dromoland Castle. In keeping with the exterior of the house, features inside include elegant high ceilings, tall windows, a sweeping staircase that leads to the upper gallery, and marble fireplaces, which on a cool Irish evening are ablaze with home-grown turf and timber.
Within a five mile radius of Dromoland, are the Mediaeval Castles of Bunratty and Knappogue, old O'Brien family strongholds, both of which have nightly banquets. Quin Abbey and Craggaunowenen are also worth a look.
The ragged Cliffs of Moher in north Clare, are one of the most dramatic sights in Europe. Further north to Galway, just one hour away, the gateway to picturesque Connemara and return through the lunar landscape of the Burren. Limerick City, just 15 miles away, is Ireland's oldest city, with Adare, its prettiest village, just beyond.
Each of the five well-appointed bedrooms has its own ensuite bathroom and is furnished in soft restful tones. The first floor rooms enjoy breathtaking views of the Dromoland grounds.The two ground floor bedrooms are particularly suitable for guests with limited mobility.
