The Quay House

  • Star Rating Guesthouse
  • Location Clifden in Co. Galway
  • Open March to October

The Quay House is Clifden's oldest building, dating from C1820. It was originally the Harbour Master's house but later became a Franciscan monastery, then a convent and finally a hotel owned by the Pye family. It is now run as a town house by the charming Foyle family, Paddy & Julia where the ambience is informal & comfortable.  The Foley family forebearers have been entertaining guests in Connemara for nearly a century and The Quay House is the epitome of this.  The house stands right on the harbour and is just 7 minutes walk from the town centre.
The house is non smoking where all 14 bedrooms are individually decorated. They are all individually themed, with antique furniture, original paintings and large bathrooms, with both shower & bath.  Several bedrooms have working fireplaces and most of them overlook the Harbour.  The studios have balconies and small fitted kitchens.  All bedrooms have TV, phone and tea makers – two of the ground floor bedrooms have wheelchair access.
Breakfast is served in the conservatory overlooking the garden, a great spot form which to start the day.  Special diets can be catered for at breakfast.  There are several establishments in the area for evening meals.
