Trag Retreat
Trag Retreat's completely private rear garden overlooks the sea, which is only about 100m away. The front courtyard also has its charms with wild pink roses and lilies growing abundantly. A complete renovation of the cottage was undertaken in 2005 to the highest of specifications while still retaining the original character of the building. To contrast this, a superb modern glass-fronted kitchen extension was constructed to the rear to make the most of the panoramic sea views.
The Cottage
The holiday cottage caters for six with three bedrooms: 2 double rooms (the master is en-suite) and 1 twin room.
The cottage is fitted with oil fired central heating with two open fireplaces downstairs. There is also a sitting room with widescreen sattelite television, DVD and PlayStation to occupy on rainy days. The master bedroom is also fitted with a flat screen T.V.
A top of the range ice blue Rational kitchen with central island unit was fitted for utility with style. All the usual facilities of dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, etc. have of course been installed.
Trag Retreat has been fitted out and furnished to the highest of standards. The care taken in choosing the fittings and furnishings adds to the unique charm of Trag Retreat.
The cottage offers wireless broadband internet access, satellite TV, DVD and a PlayStation.
Two bicycles are provided free of charge to assist your exploration of the region.
Garden and Deck
A large cedar wood deck was constructed which incorporates the elevated hot tub to maximise the stunning views. The decking is ideal for that summer barbeque (a hardwood furniture set, sun loungers and a gas barbeque are provided).

A Highchair, cot, steriliser, toys, etc. are available on request.

Trag Retreat's Immediate Surrounds
Trag Retreat is located 1 mile (1.6 km) from the safe and secluded sandy beach of Tragumna, which has attained the International standard of BlueFlag for Environmental quality. Tragumna is a sleepy village adjacent to the beach with its focal point the lively and sociable pub, “The Skibbereen Eagle”. There is live music every Saturday night and the pub has a distinctive character which hard to beat. The coastal road leading to the house is lined with the exquisite red fuchsia hedge - the traditional flower associated with the West Cork area and is a popular route with walkers from miles around. Two bicycles are provided free of charge to assist your exploration of the region. Trag Retreat is located adjacent to a designated Special Area of Conservation. The fore shore area around the house are internationally recogonised for their ecological importance and rare species of birds, which are protected under the habitats and birds directive.
The ruggedness and tranquillity of the landscape guarantees a perfect escape from it all. Stunning scenery and unspoilt vistas - a relaxed way of life ensures that West Cork is truly a place apart.

Skibbereen (5 minutes)
Skibbereen, known as the Capital of West Cork Ireland, is one of Ireland's oldest market towns. The town is still a favourite shopping spot with weekly markets, craft shops, art galleries and a supermarket known for its selection of quality baked goods and local meats and produce. Skibbereen is also home to many bars and restaurants, the West Cork Arts Centre and the Skibbereen Sports Centre.
Castletownsend (10 minutes)
The medieval village of Castletownshed is steeped in history and culture with St. Barrahane's Church with its annual Summer Classical Music Festival and famous Harry Clark stained glass windows. Castletownshend's most famous previous residents are Sommerville and Ross, authors of "The Irish R.M." series of novels. The Warren Gallery @ Mary Ann's hosts exhibits of the works of Ireland's top artists, and the pub restaurant is considered one of the best in Ireland. The town also hosts an annual Maritime Fesitval, a celebration of it's sea faring past and present, still being a popular port of call for European yacht owners visiting Ireland.
Baltimore (20 minutes)
Baltimore is a busy fishing and sailing port and launching point of ferries to Cape Clear Island and Sherkin Island, favourite day trip destinations for visitors to West Cork. The village is one of the area's main centre's for watersports with sailing, diving, fishing charters, etc. The village has many fine pubs and restaurants and is home to several annual events: Fiddle Fair, Seafood Festival, Wooden Boat Festival and the O'Driscoll Clan Gathering.
Cork City (2 hours)
Cork City has undergone a transformation in recent years with the city centre geting a compete facelift. Always a much prettier and more pleasant city than Dublin, now Cork really sparkles. And so do its residents who claim to be Ireland's friendliest. Whatever the truth of that claim it is certainly true that there is no shortage of characters in "the real capital" as the locals jokingly claim. The city itself dates back to the 7th century and boasts some fine Georgian architecture. There are a number of places worth visiting while in Cork including the imposing St. Finbarr's Cathedral, St Anne's Church, which houses the Shandon Bells and Cork City Gaol.
Blarney (2 hours)
The charming village of Blarney located just outside Cork City is most renowned for its castle and stone. The impressive castle, perched on solid limestone, dates from 1446 and is situated on magnificent grounds. To acquire 'the gift of gab' one must kiss the Blarney Stone. This involves bending over backwards at quite a height and should not be attempted by the faint-hearted!
Kinsale (1.5 hours)
Located just 16 miles from Cork City in a naturally protected harbour, Kinsale is one of the most picturesque, popular and fashionable towns on the south-west coast. Kinsale is a centre for yachting, sea angling, gourmet eating and golf. Restaurants in Kinsale pride themselves on their high reputation for culinary expertise, and the Good Food Circle has been organizing a Gourmet Festival here every autumn for over 25 years. A charming town, its narrow streets are steeped in history and its harbour is always full of boats. Visit the museum housed in the French Prison or, just outside the town, the star-shaped Charles Fort with its spectacular views, before retiring to one of the town's many cozy atmospheric pubs.
