  • Location Dublin 2 in Dublin City
  • Open All Year Round

Since opening in 1997, The Merrion Hotel has established itself as the epitome of relaxed grandeur, welcoming Dubliners and visitors to the city with stunningly appointed rooms, crackling turf fires and a host of facilities. The hotel has received many prestigious awards & accolades over recent years and it is their hope, that all guests will appreciate what they feel is at the cornerstone of their success - excelling in the art of hospitality.
In restoring the four magnificent Georgian townhouses that form The Merrion, no feature is more striking than the magnificent Rococo Stucco plasterwork ceilings. Made from lime and crushed marble, the plaster has been moulded and carved into intricate, opulent designs incorporating flowers, fruit and birds. Restoring the work of the Master Stuccadores of centuries gone-by was overseen by Seamus O'hEocha and took him over six months to complete.
The Merrion Hotel houses a spectacular collection of 19th and 20th Century art which is widely considered to be one of the most important private collections in Ireland. The Merrion's grand interiors offer the perfect backdrop for these works, resulting in a dramatic and successful marriage of classical architecture and contemporary art.
One of the most distinctive and unusual features of The Merrion is its two landscaped period gardens, designed by Jim Reynolds the noted Irish landscape artist. The smaller of the two, known as "Lady Mornington's Garden" links The Main House to the Garden Wing. This contemporary wing completes the enclosure of the garden, so that many of the guestrooms enjoy views over the large central garden. Both gardens re-create the feel of an 18th century garden with box hedges, water features, pathways, statuary and obelisks.  In summer, the large garden becomes an extension of the drawing rooms in The Main House, with waiter service so that guests can dine al fresco.

Many of the classically elegant rooms in the contemporary Garden Wing overlook the box hedges and lush flowerbeds of the landscaped period Gardens.
The Restoration of The Merrion demanded the highest standards and the designers' brief was both simple and clear - "To create a space with sensitivity to the 18th century heritage of the building, with light and airy bedrooms."
As a result, the 122 guest rooms and 20 suites are the epitome of elegance and also supremely inviting and comfortable. The interior is designed using Irish fabrics and antiques to reflect the architecture and original interiors of the 18th Century Townhouses.

The Merrion Hotel offers its guests a choice of two restaurants, The Cellar Restaurant and the renowned Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, Dublin's most award winning and acclaimed restaurant. Bars include The Cellar Bar set in the original wine vaults and the intimate cocktail bar,
No. 23.
