Things to consider about driving in Ireland:

• Stick-shift cars are standard in Ireland.  If you prefer an automatic, let us know and we’ll make sure that’s what you get.  They’re more expensive, but if you feel easier about driving with one, it’s worth the added expense.
• Drive on the left side of the road.  Take the car for a spin around the lot at the rental car facility before you get on the open road.  If you have any questions about the care, turn right around, before you’ve even left the airport and ask!  The people at the rental agencies will be happy to help.
• Before you leave the lot, ask if your car take regular gas (petrol) or diesel.
• Make sure you know how to open the gas tank before it’s time to fill her up!
• Many American cities have round-abouts now as well as regular intersections.   The secret to driving in a round-about is to move into the circle and keep to the outside.  That why turning out of the circle will be easier.  If you miss your turn?  No problem!  Just drive around the circle again!  When you get back to the states, you’ll wonder why all intersections aren’t round-abouts.  They are exceptionally easy to manage.
• Invariably on or two members of your group enjoys driving the roads more than the others.  Let them go for it.  A relaxed driver is a pleasure.
