Choose from one of the treks listed below.
One Hour Mountain Trek:
This trek takes riders up into the hills overlooking the beautiful Dingle Peninsula. You leave the Stables and follow an old country road through lush Irish farmland to a small hillside path that leads you up into the hills. At the top, there is a chance for more experienced riders to quicken the pace with a canter along the ridge while less experienced riders can enjoy the scenery and take advantage of a photo opportunity not to be missed. The view is magnificent behind you, the Brandon Mountain Range, in front of you a patchwork of green fields and the sea beyond. From here you head back to the Stables by a hillside path overlooking the town of Dingle and the busy harbour beyond.
This trek departs daily at 11:00am, 2:30pm & 4:00pm. This trek is intended for, but not restricted to beginner riders.
One and a half hours beginner trek on request only.
Two Hour Mountain & Beach Trek:
This trek sets out from the Stables and follows much the same path as the one-hour trek, but at a faster pace. You then head down through town and out around the Harbour where you have a good chance of seeing Fungi, the Dingle dolphin. Down on the beach, in the shadow of ancient ruins, you can go for an exhilarating gallop along the shore before cooling off in the sea. You then make your return to the Stables via Main Street, passing pubs and restaurants that you might want to visit after your trek! (Please note that the beach on this ride is tide dependant, if the tide is high an alternative route is taken).
This trek departs daily at 11:00am. There is an alternative Mountain and River trek than can be scheduled, simply ask. This trek is for experienced riders* only. An experienced rider is one who is comfortable at English Style riding in all three gaits and is confident of their ability to control their mount. (Please note that the stables do have a weight restriction so please check on this in advance.)
Half Day & Full Day Treks:
Ventry or Muireach:
This trek takes you to the most westerly landfall in Europe. You leave the stables and cut across the Dingle Peninsula in the shadow of Mount Brandon. Your destination is the beautiful beach in Muireach, nestled in a cove protected from the roaring Atlantic by the famous peaks of the Three Sisters. Once on the beach, you can gallop/canter along shore or bring your horse wading in the sea. Have a camera ready because this beach is one of the most picturesque beaches in Ireland and pictures taken here will be a memory for a lifetime! There are different venues for the full and the half-day treks, so if wanting to book more than one day different routes will be taken.
The half day trek lasts three to four hour trek departing at 11:00 daily with a minimum of two riders. The full day day trek lasts five to six hours and departs at 10:00 each morning with a minimum of two riders. Please note that on the full day trek lunch is not included. The treks are for experienced riders* only. An experienced rider is one who is comfortable at English Style riding in all three gaits and is confident of their ability to control their mount. (Please note that the stables do have a weight restriction so please check on this in advance.)
Professional & Enthusiastic Guides
Dingle Horse Riding was founded in 1989 as a small, family-run business based in Dun Quin on the Dingle Peninsula. “We began with eight horses and a lot of enthusiasm!” The idea was to cater to those tourists visiting the Dingle Peninsula who wanted to see the area on horseback rather than by cur, bus or bicycle. In the following ten years, Dingle Horse Riding concentrated on improving trek routes, with a focus on full and half day routes designed to suit experienced riders. Superior treks designed to challenge riders earned Dingle Horse Riding a reputation as the top trekking centre in the area making it a destination for riders visiting Ireland. By 1998 the operation had outgrown its base in Dun Quin. Purpose designed stables were built in Ballinaboula, just a mile outside of Dingle. The move to Ballinaboula enabled the further expansion of Dingle Horse Riding, and once settled into its new base of operations, it grew from strength to strength.
All of the guides at Dingle Horseriding are friendly, experienced, knowledgeable and will be happy to help you find the right horse for your ride. The equipment provided is safe and well maintained and suited to the type of riding you will be doing on the landscape of the Peninsula.
