On The Map: Inishturk is a small beautiful island, 5km x 2.5km, located 9 miles (14.5km) off the west coast of Mayo. It rises boldly from the wild North Atlantic in wall-like cliffs to the northwest and steep hills to the north on which stands the ruins of the old signal tower 722 ft above sea level.
Prior to a change of ownership in 2013, the island only catered to a very exclusive crowd. Today, it is a more affordable destination for travellers looking for plenty of peace and quiet on gorgeous private island. Beyond the angling, walking and basking on sand beaches, it also features some historical attractions including Port An Dun 9th-century fort, The 16th-century Old Church, and the 19th-century Signal Tower.
