Irish Castle on Top of Hill With Picturesque Landscape

Preamble to my UK Vacation

My UK vacation has been a long time coming.  I have dreamt about going to the UK since I was 16… not to date myself too much but that’s over 30 years ago.  I even wanted to move to England for a while but my mom put the kibosh on that (which made her acceptance of my eventual move to NYC a lot easier).

At long last, I am going to the UK and I couldn’t be more excited.  I bought this CIE tour package through Authentic Ireland.  The tour starts in Windsor, residence of the queen, and ends in London.  It journeys throughout great Britain in a luxury bus.  Stops include Shakespeare’s birthplace, Liverpool, home of the Beatles (and Ladytron, the awesome synthpop band that emerged just before the turn of the millennium), Edinburgh Scotland (two nights) and Cardiff Wales.  I will be spending Halloween in London which should be pretty awesome.   I thought about renting a car but I have no desire to adapt to driving on the opposite side of the road. A bus tour seemed much more my speed plus everything is included in this package.  It actually was an amazing deal.

After that tour wraps, I am going to Dublin for a few days.  I want to see the Cliffs of Moher which I’ve heard is pretty spectacular.  There is also a tour that visits all of the locations where Game of Thrones is shot that I’ve signed up for (I am truly the envy of every person I know as a result of this).

Today I fly into Heathrow.  I have been up since 3 as I understand the best way to combat jetlag is to attempt to adjust to the destination time zone prior to departure.  That would make it 11:00 am where I’m going.  With any luck I will be able to sleep on the plane.

I will document each day of the tour as I experience it.  So here it starts… the vacation of my dreams.
