St. Patrick’s Day Contest Entry: A Land Closer To A Lover

It’s always a big moment when a girl introduces her father to the love of her life. It can be nerve-wracking for sure. What if he doesn’t approve? What if his expectations aren’t met? What if they’re just not good enough for his little girl? I mean I am pretty great, so he must have high expectations for the one I bring home. Luckily, I’m pretty sure this won’t be an issue. You see, the love of my life (let’s call him “Ireland” for now), well he’s pretty amazing. I couldn’t imagine anyone not being able to fall in love with him the way I have.
The first time we met was over a year and a half ago now. It was love at first sight. His beauty was endless. He always wore green – he color couldn’t look better on anyone else.  He had this enchanting aura about him. I was immediately drawn to him. Once he started calling my name, he never stopped. No matter how much time we spent together, I never wanted to leave. We never grew tired of each other.
Since then, not a day has gone by where I don’t think of “Ireland,” that I don’t miss him. When I think of “Ireland,” it doesn’t end with his magical beauty. When I think of “Ireland,” I can hear the music that plays through the streets we walked together, I hear the people laughing with us – the kindest people I’ve ever met. I think of a culture so rich, I never want to stop learning about it. I’ve never been so intrigued by a country – I mean person!
What really brought my beloved “Ireland” and I together wasn’t just my travel bug and my desire to see his beauty. Confession time:  The first time I met “Ireland” wasn’t actually the first time I had seen him. I’ve been looking at photos of “Ireland” for quite some time now. Now some people might call that stalking, I just think it shows how much I loved him. But again, it wasn’t just my intrigue of his beauty that brought us together. I saw something more in him. I wanted to learn about his country, his people, his culture! I wanted to know everything! So that’s what I did. I learned everything I possible could about “Ireland.” Quiz me! Favorite color? Green! Favorite weather? Light rain! Favorite stout? Murphy’s (he was from Cork, like).
The point is – we fell in love. “Ireland” forever has a piece of me, and I have a piece of him (No, I’m not talking about a lock of hair. I’m talking about the thoroughly TSA-searched bag of sand I brought back from our day at the beach).
Clearly “Ireland” means a lot to me. I think it’s about time that my father can meet the one who has my heart. I already know he will love “Ireland” as much as I do, but for him to be able to see what I see, and have that experience in person would be wonderful. I would love to be able to finally take my father to see this magical place  – I mean person, so he can find out how and why I fell in love with “Ireland.” And until the day “Ireland” and I are finally reunited, I will never take off my four leaf clover and the Claddagh he gave me.
