When I think of Ireland I picture the trials and tribulations my ancestors went through to provide a better life for their children and children’s children. The way the lived and the things the did. When the I can’t help but wonder if I tracked down my bloodline if I still have family on this green Isle somewhere over the rainbow. The picture I painted in my mind of this magical land isn’t of pots of gold and leprechauns but of rolling hills, heavy raindrops whiskey loving Irish and surrounded by the bluest of oceans. I imagine that when the sun shines on this blessed island it is almost magical. I’m the type of travelers who tend to go off the beaten path and befriend as many locals as possible to truly experience Ireland from a nontourist point of view. Just thinking about Ireland warms my heart. Knowing that eventually my path will lead me there puts a smile on my face. It’s not a matter of if put when I get there. I can’t begin to tell you what I would do I’m not much of planner. I wing it. I do know that I want to see the countryside, the forest, drink my whiskey in a hole in the wall bar that I will most likely stumble into after a long walk about with a smile on my face and a sense of adventure in my heart that is immeasurable. I am Irish, Scottish and English ( I know, I know crazy right ). Although I have never stepped foot on her soil I feel as if a part of me is there and always will be. I don’t expect anyone to understand that comment but I can feel it in my soul. Just like I feel it with the sea. She is constantly calling me back. I grew up on an island in northwest Washington. I have moved to multiple states and somehow I keep going back to the water. What can I say I am a fish out of water and the beach is my happy place. There isn’t a thing about Ireland that I don’t find intriguing so trying to pinpoint certain thing is impossible for me. Writing this made me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside so I want to thank you for letting me express myself and my feelings towards Ireland and all she has to offer. Until that day comes I will continue to dream about the day my feet hit the soil and I breath in a deep breath of the crisp cool air, let it fill my lungs and warmth fill my heart. Erin go Bragh.
